Full description and objectives

Background. Construction is a strategic European sector under pressure from labour shortages, renovation needs, productivity gaps, safety risks and climate objectives. Robotics pilots are increasing, but adoption remains fragmented: inspection drones, cable-driven facade robots, mobile manipulators, quadrupeds, AR helmets, exoskeletons, digital twins and AI planning are often treated as isolated technologies.

Objective. This workshop uses four Horizon Europe projects - SHIELDBOT, RADIANCE, ROBOCONS and DISCOVER - as a shared evidence base to discuss how AI, data and robotics can converge into a safe, interoperable and value-driven construction ecosystem. We will compare approaches across facade renovation, interior execution, inspection and diagnosis, digital twin decision support, logistics, and worker-centred human-robot collaboration.

Learning goal. Participants will leave with a practical framework for moving construction robotics from pilot demonstrations to deployable site operations: what data must be captured, how robots should be validated, which value metrics matter to contractors and building owners, and what European capabilities need to be strengthened locally.

Expected outcome. The session will produce a public summary of deployment barriers, reusable success factors and priority actions for European ADR stakeholders working in construction.

Why you want to join?

This session addresses ADRF26 Themes 1, 2 and 3, and supports Themes 4 and 5. It shows how AI, data and robotics converge in construction through autonomous robots, drones, cable-driven systems, mobile manipulation, AR, exoskeletons, digital twins and AI-based planning and situational awareness. It translates technical capabilities into value metrics relevant to contractors, renovation operators and building owners, including productivity, quality, safety, TCO, reduced rework, energy performance and environmental impact. The session uses ROBOCONS, SHIELDBOT, RADIANCE and DISCOVER and as complementary European cases to discuss lab-to-site validation, interoperability, acceptance by workers and end-users, and the skills and governance needed to scale European construction robotics.
