Stephen MacDonell

Stephen MacDonell received Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) and Master of Commerce degrees from the University of Otago and a PhD from the University of Cambridge. He is a Fellow of IT Professionals NZ, a Senior Member of the IEEE and the IEEE Computer Society, and a Member of the ACM. Between 2016 and 2024 Stephen was Deputy Director, and Theme Leader for Data Science & Digital Technologies, in New Zealand’s National Science Challenge Science for Technological Innovation, Technical Advisor to the Office of the Federation of Māori Authorities Pou Whakatāmore Hangarau - Chief Advisor Innovation & Research, and co-founder of Software Innovation New Zealand (SI^NZ). Stephen convened the Royal Society of New Zealand Te Apārangi Marsden Fund MIS Panel 2023-2024 and, in addition to his current academic roles, he is Horizon Europe Pillar II National Contact Point for Cluster 3: Civil Security for Society and Cluster 4: Digital and Industry.”
