Mallory Durran

Mallory is Nesta's chief technology officer and mission director for agency and resilience.

At Nesta, she leading work to ensure the next generation has the ability to shape the technology that impacts our lives.
Mallory has spent over a decade building data and AI systems for the public good, across government and start-ups. Most recently she was interim director of the Incubator for AI (i.AI) at the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, leading the engineering team behind AI applications now used across the public sector. She brings extensive experience from the heart of UK government, including in the 10 Downing Street,  the Cabinet Office and Delivery Units.

Mallory's work focuses on the substrate beneath AI, the data, standards and digital public infrastructure that decide whether a country builds its technological future or rents it. She has contributed to significant government standard-setting and reviews on data and digital infrastructure, ethics, and AI safety and opportunity. With an academic background in computational neuroscience, she is a badged statistician and a former SCS member of the Government Statistical Service.
Mallory remains relentlessly optimistic about technology’s power to fuel positive change.
