João Reis

João Reis holds a Master's and Ph.D. in Informatics Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Porto, where his research focused primarily on the application of computational learning in the manufacturing industry. His work ranged from robotic systems to process optimization, having participated in various National and European projects and collaborated with the European Commission as an expert in the field of smart manufacturing. He was also a Invited Lecturer in the Department of Computer Engineering and Informatics, as well as at a business school in Barcelona, teaching topics related to Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.

After nearly a decade in academic research, João transitioned to the industry, where he worked on innovative Artificial Intelligence products and services, specifically in text comprehension and generation. His combined experience in academia and industry was crucial for founding a start-up based on Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) applied to the medical field. His current main research focuses on information retrieval systems based on large language models, reliability and privacy of such systems, together with innovative teaching approaches using generative artificial intelligence.
