Gil Gonçalves

Gil M. Gonçalves is an Associate Professor at the Department of Informatics Engineering (DEI), where he has built an academic career in software and systems engineering, control architectures, software modelling, and the design of complex systems. His research focuses on digitalisation and digital transformation in industry, Cyber-Physical Systems, IoT and edge computing, Digital Twins, and predictive and prescriptive approaches for system adaptation and reconfiguration. He coordinates the SYSTEC-Manufacturing thematic line within the SYSTEC Research Unit and leads the DIGITAL and InTelligent Industry Laboratory, a multidisciplinary research initiative involving experts from informatics, electrical, and mechanical engineering.

With extensive experience in research, innovation, and academic leadership, Gil has contributed to 60 national and European projects, serving as principal investigator in 43 of them. He has supervised more than 15 PhD students and authored more than 150 scientific publications, accumulating over 2,000 citations. 

He currently serves as FEUP’s Pro-Dean for Internationalisation, supporting the Faculty Dean by providing strategic coordination of the faculty’s international agenda across teaching, research, and engagement.
