Andry Maykol Pinto

Andry Maykol Pinto is Associate Professor at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto and Senior Researcher  at the Centre for Power and Energy Systems (CPES) at INESC TEC. His work focuses on robotics, artificial intelligence, computer vision and autonomous systems for the inspection and maintenance of critical infrastructures, with a strong emphasis on renewable energy assets and offshore operations.  He has coordinated and led multiple European-funded research projects under Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe, contributing to the development of advanced robotic platforms capable of operating across aerial, surface and underwater environments. His research combines AI-powered perception, autonomous navigation, and digital inspection technologies to improve the safety, efficiency and sustainability of infrastructure operation and maintenance. He has established the ATLANTIS Test Centre in Viana do Castelo, a pioneering facility dedicated to the development and validation of robotic solutions for real-world infrastructure inspection and maintenance challenges. By streamlining offshore interventions, extending operational weather windows and removing human operators from high-risk environments, his work aims to significantly reduce O&M costs and enhance the overall competitiveness and sustainability of renewable energy production.
