Nicholas Vretos

Dr. Nicholas Vretos earned his B.Sc. in Computer Science from Sorbonne Université (Campus Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris VI) in 2002 and completed his Ph.D. at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2012. He has taught courses such as Biomedical Image Processing and Multimedia Analysis at both Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the International Hellenic University. Dr. Vretos has contributed to over 15 European projects, where he has held roles including Project Coordinator, Technical and Scientific Manager, WP Leader, and researcher. His academic work includes more than 70 publications in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings, along with several book chapters. Dr. Vretos is an active member of the CERIS community and participate in Disaster Resilience Societies projects for the last 10 years, contributing in how robotics and AI can contribute to a safer and more resilient world. In addition to his research, Dr. Vretos has actively contributed to the academic community by serving as Chair/Co-chair for various international conferences and workshops and participating in program and technical committees. He is also a member of the editorial boards of several academic journals. He is regularly acting as an expert for the European Commission, he is a Senior Member of IEEE and he continues to engage in research areas such as image and video processing, Human-AI symbiosis, Trustworthy AI, semantic analysis, neural networks, and 3D data processing.
