Jim Mainprice is a Senior Manager in the Artificial Intelligence (AIR) department at the Robert Bosch Corporate Research Center in Renningen, Germany. Before joining Bosch, he worked as a Principal Research Engineer at Mercedes-Benz from April 2022 to December 2023, where he focused on motion planning and machine learning for automated driving. Earlier, he served as a substitute professor of computer science at the University of Stuttgart for two years.
His research interests span artificial intelligence, robotics, and machine learning. He earned his Ph.D. in 2012 from the University of Toulouse, France, where he conducted his doctoral work at LAAS-CNRS. From 2013 to 2014, he was a postdoctoral researcher in the Autonomous Robotic Collaboration Lab at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in Massachusetts, USA. During this time, he participated in the DARPA Robotics Challenge as a member of the DRCHubo team.
In 2015, he joined the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Tübingen, Germany, as a researcher. From April 2017 to March 2022, he was the founder and head of the Humans to Robots Motion research group at the University of Stuttgart. Since then, he has been based in Stuttgart, Germany, and holds French citizenship.
